The Winter Skills course builds on the Fundamentals and Summer Skills training, preparing Mountain Leaders to operate safely in snow, ice, and winter mountain environments. The course focuses on glacier travel, snowshoeing, winter navigation, avalanche rescue, anchors, snow shelters, and winter risk management, developing the technical skills needed for professional mountain leadership.

- Plan and lead safe journeys in winter and snow-covered mountain environments.
- Conduct route study, terrain assessment, and winter route planning.
- Demonstrate safe glacier travel and snow/ice movement techniques.
- Construct and use natural and artificial anchors in winter terrain.
- Use snowshoes effectively for safe travel in deep snow.
- Apply winter camping and bivouac skills.
- Recognize avalanche hazards and carry out appropriate rescue and evacuation procedures.
- Navigate safely during night and whiteout conditions.
- Apply effective winter risk assessment, decision-making, and emergency management.
- Construct igloos and emergency snow shelters.
